Date of Passing: Oct 16, 2004
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryBJARNI (BARNEY) KRISTINN GISLASON It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of our dear Dad, Afi, and Big Afi, after a hard struggle in the last few months, which ended peacefully on October 16, 2004 at the Arborg Hospital. Dad leaves to mourn his children, Raymond (Lucille), Arlene (Sam), Kristine (Ivan), and Robert; grandchildren, Mylinda, Richard, Craig, Susan, Derek, Bobby, Christopher, Shara, Neil, Jackie, Jen, Janine, and Kristinn; 20 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by sisters-in-law, Nellie Johannson and Kristine Gislason. Dad was predeceased by his wife Stebba; his parents, all his brothers and sisters, and his grandson Tim. Dad was born in 1916 in Arnes, MB and later moved to Riverton with his parents and family. As a young boy, he started fishing with his dad Jon, and from then he went on to do various construction jobs as a dragline operator, working in many northern areas and around the Interlake. In 1937, he married the love of his life, Stebba, and they had 61 years together before Mom passed away. Dad was a faithful member of the A.A. group in Riverton and looked after all the meetings for many years, and made many friends along the way. He enjoyed fishing with his sons, gardening and visiting his sisters Runa and Magga, and also Leslee, while cruising around in his fancy black car! Dad looked after Mom for years at home, with the help of caregivers, and later in the hospital and care home. Thank you for that Dad! Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 22 at 2:00 p.m. at the Riverton-Hnausa Lutheran Church with Pastors Trudy Thorarinson and Neill Von Gunten officiating. Interment of ashes will take place at the Riverton Cemetery following the service with his grandchildren acting as honorary pallbearers. We would like to thank the staff at the Tudor House in Selkirk and the Arborg Personal Care Home for the wonderful care. We appreciate all your help. A special thanks to the nurses at the Arborg Hospital who were with us during Dads final hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Riverton-Hnausa Lutheran Church or a charity of ones choice. Gotta Nott Elskan, Pabbi Min, and Afi Barney. GILBART FUNERAL HOME, SELKIRK in care of arrangements.
